Southland Launches
Beeville, Texas — Southland Incentive, Inc. announces its formation and will file for 501(c)3 non-profit status.
The Southland Incentive is a new stallion incentive launching with a noble directive: promote the roping horse business AND support youth involved in agriculture/equine-related careers.
The incentive intends to operate very similarly to many other stallion incentives by promoting enrolled stallions and offering BIG money events for their progeny. BUT… this incentive will pay out 100% of stallion enrollment fees and donate additional proceeds to promote western heritage and fund scholarships for Texas youth.
The initial board consists of three directors: James O’Brien, Christopher Bethune and Bo Crutchfield.
“Incentives and futurities have changed the rope horse landscape over the last few years and have had a significant positive impact on the rope horse market in general,” James said. “Most of those opportunities are way north of us, but we’re surrounded by excellent roping horses here in South Texas. We hope to democratize the availability of BIG incentive money, and with the right alliance, provide a fantastic outlet for marketing great rope horses as well.”
O’Brien insisted that the new incentive is not geographically limited. “We do want to shine a light on the great horses that are down here in South Texas, but there are amazing roping horses in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana and on and on. A good horse is a good horse and we want to provide an additional opportunity for the entire rope horse industry.”
James O’Brien raises horses and cattle on his family’s ranch in Beeville, Texas. His event production and non-profit experience began in 2010 when he and his wife, Tonni O’Brien produced the Namgis Calf Roping. The roping hosted well-knowns such as Fred Whitfield, Monty Lewis, Justin Maass, Shane Hanchey and more while raising over $80,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research and services in the San Antonio area during its 3 year run. Mr. O’Brien was also involved with bringing the South Texas Ranch Rodeo Finals (STRRF) to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo eventually serving as Vice Chairman of that committee before moving back to his family ranch in Beeville, Texas. The STRRF is now the San Antonio Invitational Ranch Rodeo and is an important part of the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo held in the Frost Bank Center annually.
